ALIA Research Advisory Committee submission in response to the Australian Academy of the Humanities Future Humanities Workforce Consultation Paper

The Future Humanities Workforce Consultation Paper has been designed to inform the national consultation process about the contribution and preparedness of Australia’s humanities research workforce for the future of work in academia and beyond. Engagement with stakeholders across all sectors will assist in the development of a comprehensive understanding of issues associated with the future humanities research workforce, including the current capacity and demographics of this workforce, and the skills and knowledge this workforce will require.
 

IFLA global vision discussion: Australia contributes to the IFLA Global Vision conversation survey results

Results of a survey conducted in 2017 to elicite views on how a united library field can tackle the challenges of the future.  Respondents were ALIA personal members or work for libraries that are ALIA instutional members.  The report is a contribution to the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA) Global Vision conversation.

Experimenting with virtual reality in a university library

National 2016 Conference, 29 August-2 September 2016 Adelaide: Engage Create Lead.
 
This conference paper describes a project in 2015 at the University of Adelaide Libraries to demonstrate innovative and relevant use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology in support of the University's mission.  The project aimed to demonstrate opportunities for the University Libraries to utilise emerging technologies.  
 

IFLA Trend Report on the evolving information environment

This conference presentation discusses the IFLA Trend Report which is research by IFLA used as a foundation for advocacy and policy, and for use by our members which looks across society and access to the digital information environment to identify high level trends which will affect our future information environment and brings together the ideas of a range of experts from different disciplines (social scientists, economists, education specialists, lawyers and technologists).

This conference presentation discusses how most futurists will tell you that it is important to look at the trends, and develop various scenarios to assist in determining your future directions.  However spotting trends may be more difficult than you first think, trends come and go and which ones will stick and have an influence on your everyday.
