ALIA Asia Pacific Special Interest Group (ALIA APSIG) was a national group that aimed to lead efforts in identifying new sources of support for the development between information professionals in the region, through two-way co-operation. It also aimed to provide a forum for members to discuss regional professional issues and to communicate these to the appropriate forum; hosts public talks relating to relevant issues; and produce a membership newsletter three times per year.

Australian librarian and ALIA Fellow, Christine MacKenzie, will become the President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) at the World Library and Information Congress in Athens later this year for the 2019–2021 term. Before she commences her presidency, ALIA grabbed a moment of her time to have a chat about her presidential theme, the challenges on the horizon, and what she’s most looking forward to in her time in office.

In 2017 the ALIA International Relations Advisory Committee was formed to advise the ALIA Board on issues related to international affairs, advocate on the benefits both for individuals and the Association in international engagement, encourage international collaboration and sharing of ideas and build awareness within the Australian library community of involvement in various international initiatives. 
 
This brief report provides an update of international activities as of January 2018.
